I've used gtk2 and gtk3 and I see no differences other than having
different looking eye-candy themes...
It's my understanding gtk3 is suppose to bring better performance, but I'm
not seeing that yet...
For now, to me performance is a fast cpu, fast ram and fast hard drive and
I have all 3! :)
If we want performance buy an SSD, I did! LOL...
For now I say keep GTk2 alive in distros for at least another 2-3 years!
