I'm now on git 782b2864, Fedora 17. No other openbox patches applied. I
have not yet been able to get rid of Gnome session.

I notice that it does work sometimes, but I haven't been able to
reproduce the conditions under which it reliably works. My hunch is it
may have to do with the way the application window gets focus (e.g., by
mouse movement, or via window cycle shortcuts).

The thing I do not understand is, that according to:

<!-- Move focus under the mouse, even when the mouse is not moving. -->
  <underMouse>yes</underMouse>

I would expect the focus to be restored to whatever window is under the
mouse.

BTW, it would be nice to have a way (shortcut or menu action) to display
a small 'About' popup with the openbox version, config file name and
startup parameters. I'm not always sure which of the openbox versions I
have installed is actually managing my screen...
