dock

I've been using openbox some time now, and enjoying it very
thoroughly.  It's a very smooth piece of work.

But I just can't quite figure out...

What the heck is [the] dock? 

I poked around in the Docs section of the website and googled
a bit, but my rc.xml just baffles me:

  <position>Top</position>
  <stacking>top</stacking>
  <direction>vertical</direction>
  <floatingX>0</floatingX>
  <floatingY>0</floatingY>
  <autoHide>no</autoHide>
  <hideTimeout>300</hideTimeout>
  <hideDelay>300</hideDelay>
</dock>

Is there some sort of docker application-thingy i'm just missing?
Thanks a lot (and maad props on the window manager).
