Try setting up a "MetaModes" line in your "Device" section. Mine looks
like this:

Option "MetaModes" "1152x864,1152x864;800x600,;,1024x768"

This gives me my dual 1152 on 17" monitors, but then it switches to only
the left monitor at 800 when running UT2K4 (and advmame), or to only the
right monitor when I do a full-screen session with VMware.
