this is not openarena discussion. openarena can enable it in their
distribution

and for the users that dont read help files : it is their problem. but they
really should
they must read http://ioquake3.org/?page=help after downloading ioquake3
binary from the ioquake3.org

anyways I dont think auto downloads will be on by default in future releases
of ioquake3. Zakk said the last word. Go bug whatever mod you want it to be
enabled. This is not the right place imho
