Banning

I had a rowdy individual on my Linux box last night I wanted to simply ban.
I dropped down the console and entered

/rcon password status

And got his ID number.

I then typed /rcon password banuser (might have been BanUser?) 12345 <- his
ID

It told me I could not do it because he was not on the server. I then tried

/rcon password banclient 12345 but that did not seem to work either!

I also tried using the users name as it was listed.

Do I need to know something else here? What might I be missing?
