Re: my commandline, I just used the same one I'd been using with winex
and the windows dedicated server prior to this. I'll take some
options off next time it crashes. :)

It was very late last night for me, so I left out some crucial
details.

The server usually runs pretty damn well. See here for details on
that:

http://bfb.bogleg.org/stats/index.cgi?g=w&s=bfb-bf1

I've been running the Linux dedicated ever since 1.4 came out
(starting whatever day that was), and this is only the second time
it's crashed on me. The first time, I had ulimit -c 0 so I had no
core dump, but it was also signal 4, Illegal instruction that time.

Info about the server:

bfb.bogleg.org 2.4.20-gentoo-r2 #3 SMP
i686 AMD Athlon(tm) MP 1900+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

That is, dual AthlonMP 1900+, 1GB RAM

# cat /etc/gentoo-release
Gentoo Base System version 1.4.2.9

make.profile is default-x86-1.4, and I guess it's been a while since I
emerge sync && emerge -u world

The machine also runs two CS servers (3.1.1.0c still :P) and various
numbers of people playing nethack and the website, mysqld, forums,
etc., with no problems.

so.. please don't let something like this cause you to downgrade your
optimizations! :)
