Twilight stability

A few days ago, Zeph committed a rewrite of ... half the renderer, to be
quite honest. It has been shown to be buggy, extremely buggy. Given that
nobody (including him) seems to really understand what the code is
actually doing wrong (or right for that matter), I've spent the last
several hours painstakingly reverting the whole thing, by hand.

This has not made me a happy project leader.

The end result is that Twilight is now significantly more stable than it
was a few hours ago. Some bugs I've found while testing the revert:

 - unlit maps are solid white, trivially fixed
 - memory corruption, Damm's bug lives and I know how to demonstrate it!
 - rocket trails look bad with low or high framerates
 - our demo playback has some borkedness

Fixes will be forthcoming.
