[openbox] What tools to use while figuring out a problem with modal dialogs ?

As to what it's doing wrong my guesses would be setting transient
relationship inverse, so the wrong thing is a child, or maybe a cycle
somewhere so it's confusing/abitrary. Or raising the window itself with
XConfigureWindow or equivalent whenever the stacking changes to be how you
want it, and making it how you don't. Or maybe something else, not sure.
