It sounds like it would be handy to allow the z-near and z-far clip planes to 
be customised per view. This would give the "z-clipper" effect if used in the 
XY view.. and would replace "cubic clipping" for the camera view by adjusting 
the z-far clip plane instead. It may make sense to allow the z-near and z-far 
clip planes to be dragged around in the orthographic views... or perhaps have 
an increase/decrease shortcut like ctrl + ]/[ for cubic-clip.  It may also be 
useful to have them entered numerically .. and allow different settings to be 
saved/bookmarked.
