might be a good idea to stick with the new tech, as scons is the successor of
cons. extract from a mail with Steven Knight (original cons author, scons leader)

Well .. cons CVS is working great for me. It would just need a new
release. Everyone is using the cvs version, newbies get 2.3.0, and run
into the known bugs etc.

The thing that's been nagging me for months is the 'nearly working'
parallel build in pcons. The code is there, at least one person (the
author) was able to make it work, but I can't seem to make it work here.

Converting to scons .. apart from parallell build, I don't have any
incentive to move away from cons for now. I am using cons for several
projects, mostly production stuff / real life work. I would need to
learn Python, convert everything ..

Actually, it would be a good thing to attempt a conversion of GtkRadiant
from cons to scons as an experiment. Since it's open source, I could get
more eyes to look at it and use it as a testbed for more:
