rcon say problem

Hi all,

   This is actually a COD, and not a COD:UO question, although I
   suppose it would apply to both....

   I have a linux dedicated server running call of duty,
   and when I try using rcon say, either via rcon, or through the
   console itself, nothing prints out to the clients :(

   What I do is:
   ingame:
   /rconpassword [whatever]
   /rcon status (works like a charm)
   and then
   /rcon say test
   but nothing prints out :(

   On the console itself (via SSH):
   say something

   Still nothing happens.
   It must be either something really stupid that I do wrong or some
   weird problem.
   I have tried it from various clients, and after several server
   restarts, pass changes etc. but no luck
   Any help will be highly apreciated
