If we have a LAN party, does everyone need a valid key?

Ryan commented on this earlier, he said that 'for now' there isn't key
authentication on local games.
Leaving the ethical issues asid momentarily, an important issue that
Ryan let us know about, is that the master server reads the OS version
and associates it with the CD key each time you play online and get the
MOTD. And that that is exactly how they get there numbers regarding OS
use.
So if you're a GNU/Linux gamer and want your purchase to count as a
'vote' for future ports. Please be careful that your key is not used
online by someone using 'some other' OS.
