[quake2] Turkey Day...

Ok, i get the following for ls -l in my baseq2 folder:

-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root   1003661 Jan 14  2003 gamei386.so*
-rw-r--r--  1 root root   3282742 Nov 25 01:18 maxpak.pak
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root 183997730 Nov 25 01:04 pak0.pak*
-rw-r--r--  1 root root  12992754 Nov 25 01:34 pak1.pak
-rw-r--r--  1 root root     45055 Nov 25 01:34 pak2.pak
drwxr-xr-x  6 root root      4096 Nov 25 01:15 players/

and when i try run the GDB thing and run +set vid_ref softx the whole X 
crashes, had to reboot... =)
error msg for it:

"Program recieved signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault
0xbffff33c in ?? ()"

yeah i have gcc and all those things... maybe i should try the latest version 
yes...
