sound broken?

Hi,

The recent changes to sound initialization seem to not work with
alsa. Quake2 prints the following messages on startup and does not
play any sound at all:

/dev/dsp: Invalid argument
SNDDMA_Init: Could not mmap /dev/dsp.


$ cat /proc/asound/version 
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 0.5.12.
Compiled on Dec 19 2001 for kernel 2.4.16-4GB.
