mouse recovery

Occasionally I manage to freeze a game and am
forced to kill it from another virtual console
(e.g. for Enemy Territory I put a "kill -9" on
the et.x86 process.)

This works fine except that generally my mouse
is no longer functional, and the cursor just sits
parked in the upper left corner. My only solution
is to kill the X server and log in again, but
I'm thinking there ought to be a more elegant
solution.

Have had this experience under Wolfenstein and
Enemy Territory. Can't recall if also with
UT2003. I use KDE.

Thanks for any suggestions.
