[cod] cod Digest, Vol 8, Issue 36

Well Peer to Peer may work well in the console arena, but it's not going to
work with PC gamers.

IW knows that.

Peer to Peer doesn't generate any more revenues; the difference has to be
marginal. Every real player (as opposed to server instances) already has a
copy of the game (let's just presume they are legitimate buys). But forcing
a copy to be purchased for the server would be a viable option. Hard to
enforce, but clans wouldn't balk at this. hell - we are paying minimum of
$30/mo per instance just to host anyway. But the number of server instance
out there wouldn't even be a blip in the revenue numbers. Say 10,000
instances at $65, about half mill. I understand them not wanting to support
the server businses ... it doesn't make sense financially. but don't block
it ... if it ain't broke don't fix it.

With this decision, PC sales are going to be so marginal, they'll have the
test case to say, "See - PC sales have declined big time, now it doesn't
make sense for us to offer the PC version." So as PC gamers we'll have two
choices, a) stop playing games or b) just cave and go the console route.
This whole strategy is banking that players in the long run will end up on
consoles. Guess who benefits. I'm stating the obvious here.

Guys - this is a power grab; but I guess we knew that.

Dark days guys. LOL I'm not going to console.
