[cod] COD4 Server Memory Limit

I do not quite understand the memory issues that everyone has posted about
here. The meminfo basically tells you total memory in use, is there a way
for it to list each processes memory/swap used?
My running processes state it is taking up 367 megs for COD4 process, but
does not call out how much of this is in swap space. This VM is currently
running a 32 man COD4 server plus email & web with only 256megs of physical
ram on it.
Thanks,
Dallas Crandall

probably has to do with the fact that they're using memory-resident
fastfiles in addition to the iwd system

Agreed. I just bought 8GB of RAM for that system and it is almost all being
soaked up already. I can't see any logical reason why they would take
com_hunkmegs out of the game.

The meminfo command was pointed out to me on a forum which is the basis on
which I limited the ram with com_hunkmegs in older games in the COD series,
and as I said, I have had absolutely no problems with this on servers of
varying size.

That's nonsense, a dedicated server just needs to handle network
connections between the clients and it manages a global gamestate
(Player locations / health / etc) A dedicated server doesn't need to
load all those high resolution textures in memory. That's where the huge
amount of memory usage is coming from I think.

There is a command 'meminfo' in CoD4, I'm not sure what the numbers mean
though.

meminfo
10485760 bytes total hunk

    5096 low permanent

   39648 high permanent

   44744 total hunk in use
$init 0.0
common_mp 39.0
localized_common_m 2.6
free physical 33.6
mp_convoy 51.7
localized_code_pos 0.7
code_post_gfx_mp 0.5
