[cod] Linux Server Requirments?

I haven't had a lot of luck getting the server to run "well," but
there are a few things that I've noticed:

- Expect the CoD 4 server process to use at least 175 MB of RAM with 0
players connected. (If it helps to have a comparison, I've seen the
CoD 4 server use 7.5% more RAM than a CS: Source server with
equivalent load.)
- Expect to see at least 50-60 millisecond overhead in latency. (That
is, if you have 40 ms latency with your server when pinging it [that
is, ICMP packets], expect to see about 90-100 ms in game, at least.)

I run the server process on an AMD Athlon 64 5000+ with 2 GB of RAM
and a SATA HDD hosted on a 100 Mbit line on Peer1's excellent network
(other game servers on the same machine in comparison run around 15 to
25 ms as CoD 4 runs 100-110 ms). Map changes are quick and connecting
to the server in most places is quick, but the latency always seems
far beyond what it really should be (I suspect that this is just
because it's an early release of the server software).

That's about all I can say about the CoD 4 GNU/Linux port, right now.
I hope it helps.

Cheers,

Jeff Wilges
