Ah, what I've heard called an "alias" interface. One can also have
additional hardware interfaces, and those can have aliases. There's also
non-hardware interfaces like tun and tap, plus dynamic interfaces like ppp,
all of which can have addresses assigned. And of course, there's the
loopback interface, which can have any set of addresses in 127/8 but
usually is configured with just 127.0.0.1.
