From a quick Google, the NUMA scheduler code was merged in 2.6.7 (see
http://kerneltrap.org/node/3178 ), so I'm pretty sure it's NUMA aware
past that. The kernel config certainly has an option for it. How
advanced it is and how much benefit it gives is up for speculation.

I dunno about spare, but we have a dual opteron gentoo box where I can
run tests. The version of ps lists the pids for all the threads, and
changing the affinity is done on a per-pid level, so it should be easy
enough. The hardest part would be setting up a consistant test case to
compare. If you want to email me off list I can set you up with ssh
access to the box and we can do some experimenting.
