BUG? +maxPlayers XX does not work on AMD-64

When I add +maxPlayers 32 to my start-up line, it works wonderfull on an
P4, and it ignores the setting in serversettings.con . 
 
On an AMD 64 (Dual Opteron) it doesn't it ignores this startup
parameter.
 
Anyone else tried this?
