yeah, this wouldnt be a horrible idea. I know (and others agree) that
programs I compile with my gentoo boxes seem to go much faster. I also know
of a guy who compiled quake2 optimised and not and was amazed at teh
difference, esp the server.

->Hello,
->
->now that we have a chance to talk to a server coder directly (hello Ryan
->:-) ), would it be possible to release some cpu optimized server binaries
->when the most important bugs have been fixed?
->
->Maybe
->- standard release for all (x86) cpu's
->
->and additionally some gcc(3?) binaries you could use to replace
->the standard
->binary
->- optimized for P4
->- optimized for Athlon (XP/MP/Classic)
->- optimized for P3
->- optimized for ...
->
->I don't know how much performance you could gain by using a few more
->compiler flags but it could be worth a try. Only an idea... :-)
->
->Ciao,
