I have no issue with the piranha and use it as my primary pet for most 
of the game - conversely, I consider the the nautilus next to useless.  
I suspect this is probably due to different playing styles.  Also keep 
in mind that the pets are 'baby', so shouldn't be as powerful as their 
grown-up versions.
