I'm not sure if we talk about the same sprite (since I did not even
check what the gauge showed in pre6). IMHO the round gauge from 1.0pre6
should be used to show the biplane's fuel. IIRC this sprite is missing
from svn, but at least the bitmaps and most likely the povray file
still exist in the 1.0pre6 package. I'll take a look at this.

IMHO we should have a fuel gauge and a representation of bombs and
planes left. Bombs could be represented by a stack of bomb sprites,
lives by a stack of small plane sprites. Additional objects carried by
the plane could be represented by a small version of the object's
sprite. The plane's hitpoints need not be represented by a gauge or
counter, using black smoke and maybe a plane sprite with bullet holes
should suffice.

The score could be shown numerically on top of the screen.

We could add a HUD sprite group that is not moved and does not interact
with any other sprite.
