installation

Hey people

I'm new with linux and I'm having trouble installing 2004.  I've tried four 
different files off the internet and each one came up wiht a different 
error.  The one I am most puzzled about is .run.  I've never seen that 
before and I am just wondering what I'm supposed to do with a file type like 
that.  If you can help me out that would be great.
