/bin/sh: bad interpreter: Permission denied

This is the message I get when I try to run the game. At first I thought
I had just screwed something up and reinstalled, after which I was able
to play the game once (went through the first tutorial and the first
deathmatch). Since then I've just gotten this message, preceded by
whatever path I tried to run it from.

ut2003 and ut2004demo run fine, so I know it's not a hardware problem.
I've checked permissions on everything that seems relevant and I haven't
seen anything that seems like it would be a problem. The only thing that
doesn't have full 777 permissions is /bin/bash, but I can't think of any
reason I'd want write access to that anyway.

I'm running Suse 8.2, and I installed the game as root.
