I had what sounds like the same problem here.  I found out it was all
the fault of the mouse on my end.  I had a first edition Intellimouse
optical.  I i moved it to fast I would just end up spinning around in a
circle or something.  Upgraded to a Logitech MX700 and it has been great
ever since.
