Launch Failure

When I try launching ut2k3, the game crashes immediately after 
displaying the splash screen and leaves the following two error messages:

Xlib:  extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0".
OpenGL renderer relies on DXTC/S3TC support.

I do have  an nvidia card(tnt2 ultra), and I do have the latest nvidia 
drivers installed(1.0-3123).

Any ideas on what the error messages indicate and how to fix them?
Do I need to update XFree86?(I'm currently using version 4.1.0)
