Couldn't load colormap.pcx

Not sure if this list is still active, I hope it is.

I know this problem has been covered in other places online, but I can't
get mine to work.

I've copied over the files from my Q2 cd to /usr/share/games/quake2 as
the instructions directed and also installed the pak1.pak and pak2.pak
files and the players directory.

This is the error I get when I run "quake2":

I'm on a gentoo system.
Any help is appreciated.
