simple question

Sa it is my first port i dont know what is best.
Should each arch have its own tree, or should we use #ifdef and a 
unique tree? I've a solaris thing nearly working (i can see demos but 
keyboard/mouse arent responding, and no sound). In order to keep the 
linux stuff clean, i moved files from the linux tree to solaris tree 
and only there i made changes.
can some1 tell me the best way to do that?
