Sound slightly out of sync?

My roommate and I haven't played much DDR lately, but recently (perhaps
with the 1.0.1 debian packages? perhaps with one of the dependencies?)
we started playing again, and we've noticed that the sound is slightly
out of sync. By maybe a quarter or eighth of a second, so if we hit on
the beat, it ends up being "Great" and at the end, almost everything
arrow was late. I also have it set up for my mom and sister on a
different computer (also debian), and I noticed the same problem there.

This is with songs that used to work perfectly. The song files are
encoded in ogg vorbis (maybe I'll get a chance to convert them back to
mp3 and try again later). I have tried it with and without python-psyco.
I have tried it with alsa and with the oss drivers. I have tried it with
2.4 and 2.6 kernels. I do not have esd or any sound server software
running.

I have not tried all possible combinations of the above configurations,
but none of them seemed to help.

Has anyone else seen this?

Is there something else I should try (aside from converting the oggs
back to mp3)?

thanks,
mike
