[openbox] Alpha masks for window buttons instead of xbm?

Making a theme today, I realized that X bitmaps are used for buttons.

This ended up in some buttons that look more awkward than could be achieved
with some anti-aliasing.

Has there been any talk of using a mask with more depth (or something to
that effect) for window buttons?
