Instability in Arch is mostly due to upstream packages making boneheaded
assumptions. Arch does not force you into an integrated "solution" like
Ubuntu, it lets you choose the components you want. I think it goes well
with openbox, for example.

I'll bet my current brokenness is not due to anything Arch did, but rather
someone on the evdev team assuming that they're part of an integrated
desktop.
