[openbox] Keybindings for screen brightness

I've got a Samsung netbook, which controls a lot of the hardware 
settings through BIOS rather than ACPI (the kernel modules do a fair bit 
of poking around to fix this, but they haven't been patched for the 
NC110 so I can't load them).

Anyway, last night I discovered that I can indeed change the brightness 
using Xfce4 panel's brightness plugin, and once it worked, xbacklight 
(which had previously failed to work) began working fine. Problem is, 
trying to bind xbacklight to my Fn keys in Openbox causes the screen 
brightness to go beserk. Instead of just going up or down one step, it 
pulsates and flickers and trips X right up, and the kernel spews out 
heaps of error messages reporting that there was a problem setting the 
brightness through ACPI.

Does anyone know of a workaround I could use to bind the brightness keys 
to their respective functions?
