Yeah, pretty much :(
Since OS X does not use X (as in X server and X clients) you cannot
really go anywhere with a window manager for X windows.
you can run an X server in it its own OS X window and run X based apps
in it with openbox but thats all.
But you can still install a linux distro on your mac :)
Though I'm not really familiar with OS X, i think there are apps
(mostly proprietary) which extends the capabilities of the window
manager. If you want to stick to OS X then try to look them up.
