Thanks for your suggestion, but I would really prefer not to use
xscreensaver. This computer is at home and I didn't installed it, as I
have no need to lock the session (the main reason I use it on insecure
computers). Since "/usr/bin/xset dpms force off" works from an xterm,
there must be some way to make it work from a hotkey with no
additional software. I'll follow your advise if no solution comes
up...
