Indeed your patch is a lot nicer solution than my ugly shell script. I
like the idea of having margins.

What would make my day is if I could set margins that restrict the
maximize function but don't restrict placing of windows with, for
instance, wmctrl. That is, if moving a window to 0,0 would actually
place the window at physical 0,0.

I'll try out your patch later to see if it does what I want.

BTW, the "fullscreen" doesn't really help me, because I want the ability
to place stuff over the dock.
