Nothing is impossible.

Whether anyone does this or not is another matter.

I would not recommend that you go writing your patch straight away.  In
order for it to work well, you'd need to utilise the new X extensions
being developed by Keith Packard on freedesktop.org, and they are still
a long way from being mature.
