Xft and RedHat 8

I have been playing with openbox in RedHat 8 and I really like it. I
have a question concerning AntiAliased Fonts. I don't think openbox is
using AA fonts when needed I have added some true type fonts in the
~/.font directory and they appear in mozilla and other apps just fine
but when different styles call for them the styles end up with really
small fonts and changing font sizes in the style doesn't seem to affect
it. I notice on the web site that it talks about a proper Xft file but
RedHat 8 doesn't use an Xft.conf file. Anyone have ideas how I can fix
this problem?
