You are wasting your time.
I am not going to put the energy into removing a few pixels of space
because: 
* I'm just going to have to put them back in
* you are the only person who cares about those pixels
* this is alpha software, and there are far more important features
  and bugs to address
* line 61 of menu_render.c is where that space is added. It would have
  taken far less of yours and my time for you to just change that line
* you haven't made a compelling argument why it is a crime against
  humanity and the queen to have that space there

So, I'm simply going to ignore your request until all of these have
been addressed. Sorry, but I have far more interesting problems to solve.
