Summary: Vertex editing is restrictive
Product: GtkRadiant
Version: 1.5
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows XP
Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: editor
AssignedTo: gtkradiant at zerowing.idsoftware.com
ReportedBy: dersaidin at gmail.com
The problem is that when a vertex is moved, a connected vertex is also moved.
I understand that this is an intentional 'feature' to try to preserve the
brushes, and stop them from becomming invalid. (I think I am thinking of 1. in
this post: http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1065#c1 -
that bug is seperate, its about brushes mis-aligned off the grid)
See this picture for a demonstration

In 1.5 dragging a vertex will drag one (or more) of the connected edges, and
keep the same planar faces.
In 1.4, a similar drag will leave all other vertexes in the same spot, and split
the planar faces into two triangular faces.
The 1.4 method gives the user much more freedom to create the brushes in the
shapes that they want. The 1.5 method is very restrictive, more like a
multi-edge drag instead of a true vertex edit.
I think that the best way to improve this would be either:
1) Have two seperate tools, one vertex edit like it is in 1.5 and one like it is
in 1.4 (pressing v should by default use the 1.4 method)
2) Have the ability to toggle off this 'protection', in effect returning it to
the 1.4 method.
Thank you.
