Make Hollow works exactly as designed.
This is an entirely new feature that is not simple to implement, and has 
limited utility.
As an aside, mitred corners are not particularly important for brushes. If you 
want nicely tesselated meshes, create them in a modelling program and import 
them as misc_model.
