A strange consequence of the fix is that once an invalid XML file is detected,
the module is unloaded, and in the case of models it's not preventing the editor
to complete a successful startup.

Only you're running without any model load and display capability. You are not
crashing if you load a misc_model or anything. So the fix is correct.
