need generic triangle surface manipulation with brand new API sets
to manipulate brushes, and generic surfaces (such as terrain or non convex)
don't really want to change the way it's currently done and add to the mess

there are other bugs opened about this. too lazy to look for them and set
duplicates right now

this is 1.3 material at best anyhow
