that all sounds very messy
no clear design on what we want to have it seems

some notes though:
I don't think we should have .xmap .xreg .xfab .. the data is more or less the
same, wether or not it's being used for a map, a region or a prefab. The only
different extension that would make sense would be for snapshots maybe, I think
something like mapname.<xx>.xmap or mapname.<xx>.map would make more sense.

changing the milestone, as I don't plan to look at this myself anytime soon :)
