When I installed GTKr, I pointed it to my Q3 1.31 dir (D:\program files\quake 
iii arena 1.29\) which it shrunk to meet 8.3 naming, resulting in D:\PROGRA~1
\QUAKEI~1.29\. This caused it to be unable to load some stuff properly, most 
noticably textures...
