Not at all, the issue isnt about cracked software or cheating at all. 

And the discussion is moving towards the issue about gamepublishers
forcing unwanted gameplay changes by combining
security/performance-patches with new versions of the game.

Maybe you should have the right to play the game you bought, and not
have to install a patch that changes the way that game works
significantly. However, you should be able to install security fixes for
that game.

YES, I know that this is a bit out of the box and not a common business
sense for publishers... I do also understand the big problem with
pirated versions and cheating, but it's sometimes healthy to look at it
from different perspectives.

No, in that case we'd be telling him to install COD 4. If we carry this 
analgoy further, what it seems he's asking is for a way to get Windows 
security updates while bypassing the Windows Genuine authentication
system.
