Map images in Mozilla

I'm using the favoriteMap.png map images from the levels/mapname/info 
directories to display maps on my server. But Mozilla 1.8b1 on Win2kSP4 
says the file "cannot be displayed because it contains errors". It shows up 
fine in the thumbnail view in my Windows folder. Some kind of bug in PNG 
support in Moz? I also find that the file won't open in Easy Thumbnails, 
which says that the file is corrupted.

A quick check with a binary editor shows the file starts with "DDS". Could 
this be one of those cases where the filename doesn't match the content?
