[bf1942] Attracting Players

We always have to kick-start our servers. Get a few friends and post to all
the bf2 forums (most have a sticky thread for this reason) and then get
everyone you can find on xfire and everything to join. It's a pain for the
start, but once you get some regulars coming around they multiply like
roaches. ;) Who wants to join a server with 4/64 players, when they can join
that other server with 60/64? Not the average player, that's for sure.

First you'll probably be full at peak hours (late afternoon into the late
evening)..Took quite a while to get ours 24/7 full, had a 40-man bfv that
was pretty much impossible to join and our bf2 ranked is the same. Our
unranked bf2, which has been up 3-4 days, is empty. The majority's flocking
to ranked servers right now I guess, at least to get some rank/unlocks, and
I do think we'll see a lot float back towards unranked servers. Not to
mention the non-ea mod scene should be pretty good eventually..

2p.

Subject: [bf1942] Attracting Players

Hello,

I'm new to both the list and the world of being a Battlefield 2
server admin, and I've got a server up that's not seeing many (or,
most of the time, any) players. It does appear in the server browser
(search for it -- it's named "Chunky Bacon BF2") and I have no
trouble connecting to it, and I have seen a few players over the
course of a few days so I know others can see it. The ping is pretty
low for me (~47ms) and I believe the server is more than adequate
(dual Opteron 242 with 4GB of memory), even though I don't think
that'd have much to do with keeping players away. Should I be doing
something else? Am I doing something wrong? Or is it simply a
matter of waiting?

Thanks,
Jeff
